Bobbio, Italy

City and abbey in the Trebbia River valley, Piacenza province, Emilia-Romagna region, northern Italy; also known as Bobium or Ebovium. Saint Columbanus of Bobbio established a monastery there c.613. It became a center of learning during the Middle Ages, renowned for its library, but it declined through the 15th century, and was suppressed by the French in 1803. See also
