Book of Saints – Angelus – 13 October

Article

ANGELUS (Saint) Martyr (October 13) (13th century) One of seven Franciscan Friars who, inspired by the example of the five brethren of their Order, put to death for the Faith in Morocco on January 16, 1220, obtained the permission and blessing of Saint Francis to follow on the African coast, September 29, 1221. After preaching in the suburbs for three days, they entered the town, and were there assailed by the populace and brought before the cadi or magistrate. He, seeing their coarse and strange habit and their tonsure, judged them to be madmen and put them in irons for eight days. Eventually they were beheaded, October 13, 1221.
