Book of Saints – Austell

Article

AUSTELL (Saint) Confessor (June 28) (6th century) A disciple in Cornwall of Saint Mewan or Mevan. He lived as a hermit in the latter half of the sixth century, probably in the district where a place-name preserves his memory. There is no account extant of Saint Austell; and some moderns have conjectured that Austell (Hawystill) is a woman Saint, one of the daughters of the famous Brychan of Wales, who has perhaps left her name to Aust or Awst in Gloucestershire.
