BEANDAN (BREANDAN) (Saint) Abbot (January 11) (5th century) A native of Ireland who crossed into Britain. There he suffered persecution at the hands of the Pelagian heretics, whose errors had become in his time widespread in the island. Constrained to leave the country, he took refuge in Gaul, and entered a monastery of which he later became the Abbot. Further particulars concerning him are lacking.
