BIRNSTAN (BRISTAN, BRYNSTAN) (November 4) (Saint) Bishop (10th century) The successor of Saint Frithestan in the See of Winchester and a disciple of Saint Grimbald. He was famous for his devotion to the Holy Souls in Purgatory; and it was his daily custom to wash the feet of the poor. He was suddenly called away from his labours on earth to the higher life of Heaven, November 4, A.D. 934.
