Article

CAECILIUS (CAECILIAN) (June 3) (3rd century) A convert to Christianity, afterwards a priest at Carthage, where his memory was held in veneration. In his old age he taught Christ’s religion to Saint Cyprian, who reverenced him as the “Father of his own new life.” He had had a wife and children, of whom Saint Cyprian is said to have taken charge. Saint Jerome says that it was from him that Saint Cyprian took the name Caecilius. Saint Caecilius flourished in the first half of the third century.
