CLARUS (Saint) (November 8) (4th century) A wealthy citizen of Tours in France, who renounced his prospects in the world to place himself under the guidance of the famous Bishop Saint Martin. Admitted by him into the monastery of Marmoutier and raised to the priesthood, he built himself a small cell in the vicinity, and in a short time reached a high degree of Christian and Religious perfection. He passed away in the odour of sanctity about A.D. 397. Saint Paulinus of Nola, to whom he seems to have been personally known, composed two poetical epitaphs for his tomb.
