DAVID (Saint) Hermit. (June 26) (5th century) A Saint held in great veneration in the Patriarchate of Constantinople, whither he is reported to have come from his native Mesopotamia. From his youth upwards a contemplative, he was raised by Almighty God to a high degree of prayer, and privileged to work miracles. He settled in a solitary place outside Thessalonica, where he served God for seventy years. He flourished probably in the fifth century, though there is much uncertainty as to this. His relics were translated to Pavia in A.D. 1054.
