Book of Saints – Egwin

Article

EGWIN (Saint) Bishop (December 30) (8th century) The third Bishop of Worcester and founder of the great Abbey of Evesham, where at an advanced age he ended his days, A.D. 717. Zealous in the interests of his flock and a father to the poor, he yet had to undergo persecution; but driven from his See he was reinstated with honour by the Pope to whom he had made appeal, journeying for that purpose to Rome. His tomb became illustrious for the many miracles wrought at his intercession.
