ELEUTHERIUS (Saint) Abbot (September 6) (6th century) The head of a monastery near Spoleto (Central Italy) in the time of Pope Saint Gregory the Great, who personally experienced the efficacy of his prayers and supernatural gifts. Saint Eleutherius died in the monastery of Saint Andrew (now San Gregorio), Rome, about A.D. 585, and his relics were later translated to Spoleto.
