(FLORENCE) (Saint) Virgin (June 20) (7th century) The scion of an illustrious, possibly Gothic, family, and the only sister of the holy Bishops, Leander, Fulgentius and Isidore of Seville. Saint Florence was born at Carthagena in Spain, and losing her parents at an early age was placed under the guardianship of Saint Leander. She retired into a convent, for which, on her being elected Abbess, Saint Leander wrote a Rule. She probably outlived her brothers, the last of whom, Saint Isidore, died A.D. 636.
