Book of Saints – Hildegarde

Article

(Saint) Virgin (September 17) (12th century) Born A.D. 1098, in the Lower Palatinate (Germany), she took the veil in the Abbey of Mount Saint Disibode. Marvellous for her gifts of prophecy, she wrote a Book of Revelations which received the approval of Saint Bernard and of Pope Saint Eugenius III. When Abbess of the monastery, as her community had grown over-numerous, she removed with some of the Sisters to Mount Saint Rupert near Bingen, where she died A.D. 1179. Her writings have come down to us, but with grave interpolations.
