French: head-dress
Large, spreading, white, linen head-dress, worn by the Sisters of Charity. In the 14th century the cornette was a common head-gear for both men and women, and reached almost to the ground. Later it was a wide band of material wound around the head and reaching to the belt, to which it was attached.
