Council of Chalcedon

Article

Convened 8 October through 1 November 451 by Pope Saint Leo the Great. Seventeen sessions, attended by over 600 bishops, including Saint Anatolius of Constantinople. Dealt primarily with the Monophysitist or Eutychian heresy which denied the humanity of Christ by saying that he only had one, the divine, nature. The council wrote a confession of faith, which is regarded by many to be the highest word in Early Christian orthodoxy.
