Ancient diocese comprised of territory now included in the counties of Caithness and Sutherland. Founded by Malcolm III in 1066 and restored by David I. Its cathedral is now in ruins. Notable bishops include

  • Andrew, the first bishop, 1150 to 1184
  • Saint Gilbert de Moray, 1235 to 1245, built its cathedral at Dornoch in Sutherland
  • Andrew Stewart II, 1518 to 1542, the last pre-Reformation bishop
