The diocese of Piacenza, Italy was founded in the 4th century.
The diocese of Bobbio, Italy was founded in 1014. On 4 August 1923 it was united with the Territorial Abbey of San Colombano to form the diocese of Bobbio-San Colombano. On 23 September 1986 it was united with the archdiocese of Genova to form the Archdiocese of Genova-Bobbio.
On 16 September 1989 the diocese of Piacenza was united with territory from the Archdiocese of Genova-Bobbio to form the diocese of Piacenza-Bobbio. Suffragen of the Archdiocese of Modena-Nonantola. Notable bishops of the current and source dioceses include
