Profile
Roman emperor from 222 to 235. He succeeded his cousin, Elagabalus, to the imperial throne. Origen was invited by his mother, Mammma, to Antioch as his tutor. Severns respected Christianity and granted tolerance though there was some anti-Christian legislation in his reign. He was a disciple of “syncretism,” uniting together against a common enemy, and strove to establish order and moral decency at Rome. He was murdered by his mutinous soldiers.
