About
Roman Emperor from 161 to 180. Father of Commodus. During his reign the incursions of the Picts in Britain and the onslaughts of the Germans were followed by the Parthian war of 161 to 166. It was during this war that he composed his well-known “Meditations,” a collection of moral reflections. The only blot on his fame is the persecution of the Christians.
