Born to a peasant family. Soldier. Roman Emperor from 235 to 238, the first barbarian to hold the title, and the first emperor to never set foot in Rome. His persecution of Christians concentrated on the clergy. Murdered by his own Praetorian guards during an unsuccessful siege of the city of Rome.
