Capítulo I
“Le di,” dijo él, “direcciones en el primer mandamiento para ocuparse de fe, y miedo, y dominio de sí mismo.” “Incluso tan, señor,” dijo yo. Y él dijo, “Ahora deseo mostrarle los poderes de éstos, que usted puede saber que poder cada uno posee. Ya que sus poderes son dobles, y tienen la relación igualmente al honrado y el malo. Confíe en usted, por lo tanto, el honrado, pero no deposite ninguna confianza en el malo. Ya que el camino de honradez es directo, pero aquel de los malos es doblado. Pero paseo en el directo y hasta camino, y mente no el torcido. Ya que el camino torcido no tiene ningunos caminos, pero tiene muchos sitios de pathless y escollos en él, y es áspero y espinoso. Es perjudicial para aquellos que andan allí. Pero ellos que andan en el paseo del camino directo regularmente sin la tropezadura, porque no es ni áspero, ni espinoso. Usted ve, entonces, que es mejor andar en este camino.” “Deseo ir por este camino,” dije. “Usted irá por ello,” dijo él;“ y quienquiera da vuelta al Señor con todo su corazón andará en ello.” And he said, “Now I wish to show you the powers of these, that you may know what power each possesses. For their powers are double, and have relation alike to the righteous and the unrighteous. Trust you, therefore, the righteous, but put no trust in the unrighteous. For the path of righteousness is straight, but that of unrighteousness is crooked. But walk in the straight and even way, and mind not the crooked. For the crooked path has no roads, but has many pathless places and stumbling-blocks in it, and it is rough and thorny. It is injurious to those who walk therein. But they who walk in the straight road walk evenly without stumbling, because it is neither rough nor thorny. You see, then, that it is better to walk in this road.” “I wish to go by this road,” said I. “You will go by it,” said he; “and whoever turns to the Lord with all his heart will walk in it.”
El capítulo II
“Oiga ahora,” él dijo, “en cuanto a la fe. Hay dos ángeles con un hombre - una de la honradez, y la otra de la iniquidad. ¿" y le dije, “Cómo, señor, debo saber los poderes de éstos, ya que ambos ángeles moran conmigo?”” And I said to him, “How, sir, am I to know the powers of these, for both angels dwell with me?”
“Oiga,” dijo que él, “y los entiende. El ángel de honradez es suave y modesto, manso y pacífico. Cuando, por lo tanto, él sube en su corazón, inmediatamente él se dirige a usted de honradez, pureza, castidad, alegría, y de cada hecho honrado y virtud gloriosa. Cuando todos que éstos suben en su corazón, saben que el ángel de honradez está con usted. Éstos son los hechos del ángel de honradez. Confíe en él, entonces, y sus trabajos. Mire ahora los trabajos del ángel de iniquidad. En primer lugar, él es colérico, y amargo, y tonto, y sus trabajos son malos, y arruinan a los criados de Dios. Cuando, entonces, él sube en su corazón, conózcale por sus trabajos.” Y le dije, “Como, señor, le percibiré, yo el donante sabe.” When, therefore, he ascends into your heart, forthwith he talks to you of righteousness, purity, chastity, contentment, and of every righteous deed and glorious virtue. When all these ascend into your heart, know that the angel of righteousness is with you. These are the deeds of the angel of righteousness. Trust him, then, and his works. Look now at the works of the angel of iniquity. First, he is wrathful, and bitter, and foolish, and his works are evil, and ruin the servants of God. When, then, he ascends into your heart, know him by his works.” And I said to him, “How, sir, I shall perceive him, I donor know.”
“Oiga y entienda” él dijo.“ Cuando la cólera encuentra usted, o dureza, sabe que él está en usted; y usted sabrá que esto será el caso también, cuando usted es atacado por un deseo después de muchas transacciones, y las delicadezas más ricas, y tertulias borrachas, y lujos de buzos, y cosas impropias, y por un deseando a mujeres, y superando, y orgullo, y bramido, y por lo que parece a éstos. Cuando éstos suben en su corazón, saben que el ángel de iniquidad está en usted. Ahora que usted sabe sus trabajos, se marcha de él, y en ningún respeto confían en él, porque sus hechos son malos, y poco rentables a los criados de Dios. Éstos, entonces, son las acciones de ambos ángeles. Entiéndalos, y confíe en el ángel de honradez; pero márchese del ángel de iniquidad, porque su instrucción es mala en cada hecho. Ya que aunque un hombre ser el más fiel, y el pensado este ángel suban en su corazón, aquel hombre o mujer deben pecar. Por otra parte, esté un hombre o mujer muy mal, aún, si los trabajos del ángel de honradez suben en su corazón, él o ella deben hacer algo bueno. Usted ve, por lo tanto, que está bien seguir al ángel de honradez, pero ofrecer adiós al ángel de iniquidad. and you will know this to be the case also, when you are attacked by a longing after many transactions, and the richest delicacies, and drunken revels, and divers luxuries, and things improper, and by a hankering after women, and by overreaching, and pride, and blustering, and by whatever is like to these. When these ascend into your heart, know that the angel of iniquity is in you. Now that you know his works, depart from him, and in no respect trust him, because his deeds are evil, and unprofitable to the servants of God. These, then, are the actions of both angels. Understand them, and trust the angel of righteousness; but depart from the angel of iniquity, because his instruction is bad in every deed. For though a man be most faithful, and the thought of this angel ascend into his heart, that man or woman must sin. On the other hand, be a man or woman ever so bad, yet, if the works of the angel of righteousness ascend into his or her heart, he or she must do something good. You see, therefore, that it is good to follow the angel of righteousness, but to bid farewell to the angel of iniquity.
“Este mandamiento expone los hechos de fe, que usted puede confiar en los trabajos del ángel de honradez, y hacerlos usted puede vivir a Dios. Pero crea que los trabajos del ángel de iniquidad son difíciles. Si usted rechaza hacerlos, usted vivirá a Dios.” If you refuse to do them, you will live to God.”
