Father Emil Joseph Kapaun

Profile

Priest in the diocese of Wichita, Kansas. Army chaplain during the Korean war, assigned to the United States Army‘s Eighth Cavalry regiment. When his unit was overrun by the Chinese army, Father Emil rescued several wounded soldiers from the battlefield. He was captured as a prisoner of war and spent his time ministering to physical and spiritual needs of fellow prisoners until dying in the camps himself. His Cause for Canonization has begun.
