About
Benedictine monastery at Ferrières-en-Gâtinais, Loiret, France. Developed into a noted literary center. King Louis III and King Carloman held their coronations there in 879. Burned by the English in the Hundred Years War, but later restored by Abbot Louis de Blanchefort. Besieged and pillaged in 1568, its relics were taken, the monks‘ stalls destroyed, and the entire place vandalized. Rebuilt in the 17th century by Prior Guillaume Morin. Forcibly dissolved in the anti-Church excesses of the French Revolution, the buildings were damaged and the library ruined. Some ruins remain today.
