L'étudiant spirituel de Saint Grimbald. Bénédictin moine. L'évêque de Winchester, l'Angleterre de 931 à 934. Connu pour son travail avec les pauvres et sa mission de prier pour les morts; à un moment donné on annonce que les morts ont répondu “Amen”. Fondé l'Hôpital de Saint Jean dans Winchester, qui existe encore aujourd'hui. La mémoire de lui a été perdue pour les années jusqu'à ce qu'il ait apparu avec Saint Birinus et Saint Swithun dans une vision à Saint Ethelwold qui a étendu le mot que Birstan était dans la gloire céleste. Founded the Hospital of Saint John in Winchester, which still exists today. Memory of him was lost for years until he appeared with Saint Birinus and Saint Swithun in a vision to Saint Ethelwold who spread the word that Birstan was in heavenly glory.
