Aucun renseignement de sa première vie n'a survécu et le premier nous entendons dire de Sola qu'il est un moine en Angleterre. Il a immigré en Allemagne où il est devenu un étudiant spirituel de Saint Boniface. Décrété par Boniface. L'ermite près de Fulda, l'Allemagne et plus tard à Eichstätt, l'Allemagne. À chaque endroit il a attiré des étudiants soi-disants.
