Un oggetto si connesse con un santo. Può essere il tutto o una parte di corpo del santo, o qualcosa che il santo ha toccato, ad esempio, un articolo di vestiario. Tali oggetti sono venerati con l'approvazione della Chiesa perché, sebbene tutti i membri della Chiesa siano considerati, e a partire dal tempo degli Apostoli sono rivolti, come "santi", quelli che esercitano la virtù eroica o muoiono per la Fede e sono onorati dalla Chiesa come eccezionalmente santo, meritano la venerazione dei fedeli. Questo è pagato da rispetto speciale per il loro rimane così come l'imitazione delle loro virtù. Il loro retaggio è perciò rinchiuso su altari, portò in processioni, e aveva l'abitudine di ottenere cure e altri favori. Such objects are venerated with the approbation of the Church because, though all the members of the Church are considered, and from the time of the Apostles are addressed, as “saints”, those who practise heroic virtue or die for the Faith and are honored by the Church as exceptionally holy, merit the veneration of the faithful. This is paid by special respect for their remains as well as imitation of their virtues. Their relics are therefore enshrined on altars, carried in processions, and used to obtain cures and other favors.
