Pope Anastasius II

[Pope Anastasius II] Reigned from 24 November 496 to 19 November 498. He caused the name of Acacius, Patriarch of Constantinople, to be removed from the tablets of the Church, although recognizing the validity of his sacramental acts. Condemned Traducianism. Worked for the conversion of King Clovis of the Franks, and of all his people. Treated schismastics so gently that he was accused of heresy. Dante portrayed him in Hell in The Divine Comedy.
