Martyr (208), apostle of Flanders, born Smyrna; died near Viviers, France. A disciple of Saint Polycarp, he was sent with Benignus, Andochius, and Thyrsus to evangelize the Vivarais. Represented in art in the garb of a subdeacon, holding in his hand a book and palm, his head pierced by a wooden knife. Relics at Saint Andeol, France. Feast, 1 May.New Catholic Dictionary
