Painter, born Soffignano, Italy, 28 March 1472; died Florence, Italy, 31 October 1517.
A pupil of Cosimo Roselli, he was a successful artist when, through the influence of Savonarola, he abandoned art and entered the Dominican convent of San Marco, in 1500.
He resumed his painting by order of his superiors.
Among his masterpieces are a Pieta, The Marriage of Saint Catherine, and The Virgin Enthroned with Saints.
His portrait of Savonarola is well known.
One of the greatest of the Florentine Renaissance artists.
