Julius Peter Garesche

[Julius Peter Garesche] Soldier, born near Havana, Cuba, 1821; died Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 1862. He entered the United States Army and took part in the Mexican War. Wherever stationed, he made himself a center of Catholic activities, being knighted by Pius IX for his services to religion. During the Civil War as chief of staff to General Rosecrans he fell at the battle of Stone River.
