Catholicism is the majority religion of the island, which comprises the Vicariate Apostolic of Guam, erected 1 March 1911, and entrusted to the Order of Friars Minor Capuchins. It was elevated to the diocese of Agaña on 14 October 1965, and then to the archdiocese of Agaña on 8 November 1984.
