Joel Chandler Harris

[Joel Chandler Harris] Born Eatonton, Georgia, 1848; died Atlanta, Georgia, 1908. Adopting journalism as his profession, he was long associated with the Atlanta "Constitution." He is best known by his "Uncle Remus" stories, which created an original department in American literature, and were translated into 27 languages. Although his wife was a Catholic and he had long admired the Catholic religion, he did not embrace it until a few weeks before his death.
