Little Chapter

(Latin: capitulum, diminutive of caput, head)

In the Divine Office a brief lesson from Scripture recited at the Canonical Hours (except Matins). The epistle of the Mass of the day frequently constitutes in festival offices the Little Chapters at Lauds, Terce, Sext, None, and Vespers; at Prime the Little Chapter is Timothy 1:17, or Zachariah 8, 9; at Complin, Jeremias 14:9.
