Comprises the northern peninsula of the State of Michigan. Establised as the Vicariate Apostolic of Upper Michigan on 29 July 1853. Elevated to the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie on 9 January 1857. Name changed to the Diocese of Sault Sainte Marie-Marquette on 23 October 1865. Name changed to the diocese of Marquette on 3 January 1937. Suffragan of the archdiocese of Detroit.
