Founded as mission "sui juris" of Zambese on 2 July 1879. Elevated to the Prefecture Apostolic of Zambese, Rhodesia on 9 March 1915 and entrusted to the English Jesuits. Name changed to the Prefecture Apostolic of Salisbury on 14 July 1927. Elevated to the Vicariate Apostolic of Salisbury on 3 March 1931. Elevated to the Archdiocese of Salisbury on 1 January 1955.
