Founded as the Vicariate Apostolic of Usumbura on 11 June 1959. Elevated to the diocese of Usumbura on 10 November 1959. Name changed to the diocese of Bujumbura on 9 October 1964. Elevated to an archdiocese on 25 November 2006. Suffragen dioceses include
