Maria Teresa Camera

[Maria Teresa Camera]
Profile
Born to a poor farm family. In 1849 after the death of her parents, Maria moved into a couple of rented rooms which she used to care for the sick and people even poorer than she was. Other women, drawn to the need to live a holy life, spent their time helping Maria and helping poor women care for their children. These women formed the foundation of the Congregation of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Pieta which Maria founded 1893, and which received permanent approval in 1909. They have worked in hospitals during war times and in the slums during peace. Her Cause for Canonization has begun.
