(Domenico Barberi) Passionist theologian, born near Viterbo, Italy, 1792; died near Reading, England, 1849. He established the Passionist Order in England, and received into the Church a number of remarkable converts of the Oxford Movement, among them John Dobree Dalgairns and John Henry Newman. His writings include works on philosophy and theology, several devotional books, and a letter on Anglican difficulties.
