Martyr, missionary, born Bassein, East India, c.1556; died Miaco, Japan, 1597. He assisted the Jesuits in Japan as a catechist for eight years, and then engaged successfully in commerce at Alacao. While in the Philippines he became a Franciscan lay brother, and returning to Japan was crucified four years later under the Emperor Taiko-Sama. Feast, 5 February.
