Pope Benedict XVI's Prayer Intentions for May
Pope Benedict's general prayer intention for May is
That Christians may use literature, art and the mass media to greater advantage in order to favour a culture which defends and promotes the values of the human person.
His mission intention is
That the Virgin Mary, Star of evangelisation and Queen of the Apostles, may still guide today with maternal affection the missionaries, both men and women, throughout the world, just as she accompanied the Apostles in the early stages of the Church.

The Catholic Hack
I grew up in the Church of Christ but fell away and became agnostic in my teens. I joined the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil of 1999 and was married in the Church to my lovely wife, Michelle, in 2000. My real conversion took place on a spring day in 2002 when I got on my knees and "let go and let God". My journey went into hyper drive at that point, and I have been in love with my Catholic faith ever since. My wife and I have three children on earth and three children in heaven. We are devout practicing Catholics who are excited to share the treasure we "found in a field" with the whole world. I work full time for a Catholic, non-profit, evangelization ministry in Houston TX called Fullness of Truth.
I began praying, fervently, for my vocation back in 2002. I wanted to know what God wanted me to do with my life and with the skills that he had provided me. I was in a career that I did not like, no matter that it was providing for my family. I could not understand why I was not able to make a living doing the things that came natural to me, the things that I really enjoyed doing. When I resigned myself to just serving the Lord in any way that He saw fit, the doors began to open.
I discovered podcasting back in 2003/2004, and as I have a background in radio and audio production, I immediately thought that it would be a perfect outlet for me. The timing was not good, however, as I was working two jobs, involved in Church groups, and our growing family. I just could not devote the time to making it a reality.
When I moved the family down to Texas in 2007, I felt that I could no longer wait. I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to just get started. It seemed like every week I would hear a homily or talk about how we received these gifts from the Holy Spirit at our Baptism and Confirmation, that we are now obligated to use them mfor the Glory of God. I was even listening to Archbshop Fulton Sheen tell me that I'm not being given a choice in the matter... God gave them for a reason. Bishop Sheen even said not to wait until I have it all figured out before we get started. I heared the message loud and clear so I began The Catholic Hack! podcast in May of 2007.
I feel that God has given me the grace to share the faith in a way that others can relate to. I'm no scholar...just a regular laymen who is on fire for the faith...a real hack. Podcasting is a wonderful way to share the faith with the world and I have been blown away but the truly universal, worldwide, Catholic, audience that this podcast has been blessed to communicate with. This is a Catholic podcast dealing in matters of apologetics, spirituality, Church teaching, and the Christian faith. Let’s have the courage to proclaim that which Christ died to give us!

Last week's questions
- Who was the Catholic rival to Queen Elizabeth I of England?
- Name the occupations of three authors of the New Testament.
- Who ordains priests? How about deacons? And bishops?
So, here's some other stuff I've wondered about.
- Some saints are shown with a flame over their heads or chests. Why?
- What's an ambo?
- There'a Holy Day that happens 40 days after Easter, and it's not even on a Sunday. What is it?
Answers next time around.
