Google Calendars
One of the great features of Google Calendar is the ability to add other calendars, whether work-related, holidays, the agenda of friends or other material. Now there's a way to add a calendar with daily links to the Calendar of Saints, or a calendar with links to SQPN content that auto-updates as new material is produced - or both! You might as well try them - it's a single mouse click to make them go away later.
You can find them by using the Add a Public Calendar option on your calendar and search for "SQPN". You'll only get two hits: SQPN Content and Saints.SQPN.com. Click the "Add it" button under one or both.
The Saints calendar will have a single entry for each day of the year; the Content calendar will have a varying number of entries, and will auto-update as new programs become available. Each entry is a link to the appropriate page or media file. The exact behaviour varies by browser, but it should open a new tab or window, go to the page, or play the podcast.
Another way to add them is to click this link and then click the
image at the bottom right to add the Calendar of Saints, or click this link and then click the image to add the SQPN calendar. Or you can go to this page to get them both at once. Note that the pages using these links may not look right, but they will work when added to your calendar.
Finally, if you want to use the iCal option, right click and copy this iCal address for the Calendar of Saints, or this iCal address or the SQPN Content, and enter it in the Add by URL option.
If you don't use Google Calendar, then none of this makes sense. If you do use it and still none of this makes sense, contact me and I'll see if I can muddy the waters a little more. ;-)
I don't know why, but Google still considers Calendar to be in beta, so I can't guarantee that this will work or look right on all combinations of machines and browsers, and I don't know how it works when you sync it with Outlook; let me know if you run into problems with it.
Catholic Magazine Press Release
The co-producers of the popular That Catholic Show video series have launched a different - but 100% faithful - look into Catholic life.
The result is the brand new audio program, Catholic Magazine, which provides a unique blend of viewpoints from priests, laypeople, teachers, and even a military officer, who share stories about living a Catholic life.
"With Catholic Magazine we wanted to capture some of the beautiful story-telling aspects that can be found on radio programs such as those on National Public Radio, but to tell these kinds of stories from a Catholic perspective," says show host Greg Willits. "The voices and stories you’ll hear are always unique, but the Catholicism of the writers ties them all together."
Each episode of Catholic Magazine features several short segments by different writers and narrators, offering listeners with different themes on each episode.
Catholic Magazine is available to listen to from the website of the Star Quest Production Network (www.sqpn.com), as well as from the Rosary Army website (www.rosaryarmy.com) where listeners can also download episodes of the award winning Rosary Army Catholic Podcast.
The weekly series is also available for download via podcasts. Podcasts, which are similar to radio shows, are free, downloadable audio files saved in MP3 format that can be listened to on computers or portable media devices such as MP3 players, CD players, and iPods.

Several of the SQPN programs, even those normally presented in audio only, use uStream to add a video element to their broadcasts, and to just interact with listeners during the shows, and sometimes before and after. The following are links to those uStream channels.
vox populi
All things considered though, the team effort from SQPN is great to see from a listener standpoint and it keeps getting better. You are all being great stewards with the opportunity. - Jim in Columbus, commenting on SQPN
catéchic
I was wondering,
- Some saints are shown with a flame over their heads or chests. Why?
To indicate that they are filled with the Holy Spirit and His gifts.
- What's an ambo?
An ambo is elevated desk or pulpit with a flight of stairs on each side from which the Epistles and Gospels were read and the sermon preached, in the early Church.
- There'a Holy Day that happens 40 days after Easter, and it's not even on a Sunday. What is it?
That would be Ascension Thursday. Just a couple of weeks ago.
Now ask yourself,
- What does Ora et Labora mean? And who's it associated with?
- What's the official cathedral of the Bishop of Rome?
- Why is Giovanni Battista Montini so famous?
We'll talk about it next time around.
