Um criado, por deveres subordinados, nos ministros que exercem em um rito sagrado, p. ex., rapazes do altar; especialmente membro da mais alta de ordens menores na igreja latina. Os deveres principais deste escritório são: iluminar as velas no altar e transportá-los na procissão e durante o canto solene do Evangelho; preparar o vinho e a água do Sacrifício da missa; assistir os ministros na missa e outros serviços públicos da igreja. The chief duties of this office are: to light the candles on the altar and to carry them in procession and during the solemn singing of the Gospel; to prepare wine and water for the Sacrifice of the Mass; to assist the ministers at Mass and other public services of the Church.
