O título eclesiástico oficial, preliminar à santidade, conferida por um juízo solene da Igreja depois da investigação suficiente comprovou que as virtudes de uma pessoa falecida foram heróicas, e que o Deus testemunhou a isto por milagres trabalhados pela intercessão da respetiva pessoa. A solenidade da beatificação é resumidamente como se segue. No dia no qual a beatificação se realiza a missa é celebrada em Saint Peter na presença da Congregação pelas Causas de Santos. Depois do Evangelho, o secretário da Congregação lê o decreto papal da beatificação, na conclusão do qual uma pintura de recentemente beatificado é exposta por cima do altar e a missa é terminado. Sobre a hora de Vésperas o Pai Sagrado alcança a basílica para venerar o novo abençoado. Quanto ao cultus do abençoado, a atenção deve ser prestada ao indult especial emitido pelo pontífice soberano.
