A declaração do Pontífice Soberano que o crente deve venerar como um Santo que já tinha sido beatificado. A beatificação permite a veneração do Abençoado em certos lugares ou comunidades: a canonização ordena-o em todo lugar. O decreto é emitido só depois que a Congregação pelas Causas de Santos aceitou a prova de dois milagres pela intercessão do Abençoado quem tinha sido formalmente beatificado, ocorrendo depois da beatificação e de três milagres daquele cuja beatificação se tinha realizado sem o processo ordinário. O Santo agora tem direito às honras cheias do altar, embora a missa e Office não possam ser extensos à Igreja inteira. The canonization is solemnly celebrated in Saint Peter’s and a solemn novena or triduum is made in another church of the city chosen for this purpose; this same nine or three days service may be also held elsewhere within a given time following the canonization.
