Publicado em três formas: principal (1555), menor (1558), e minimus (1556). A divisão da matéria sujeita é como se segue: Fé (o Credo de Apóstolos); Esperança e Oração (Oração de Senhor, Granizo Mary); Caridade e os Mandamentos de Deus e a Igreja; os Sacramentos; Justiça cristã, isto é, evitar de maldade e a realização dos bons. Pelos seus catecismos Saint Canisius tornou-se “o malho de heréticos”; eles foram traduzidos para cada língua na Europa e reimprimidos em edições inúmeras, para que o nome Canisius ficasse sinônimo ao catecismo. The division of the subject-matter is as follows: Faith (Apostles’ Creed); Hope and Prayer (Lord’s Prayer, Hail Mary); Charity and the Commandments of God and the Church; the Sacraments; Christian Justice, i.e., the shunning of evil and the doing of good. Through his catechisms Saint Canisius became the “mallet of heretics”; they were translated into every language in Europe and reprinted in countless editions, so that the name Canisius became synonymous with catechism.
