Ministered to Christians who were condemned to work the mines of Cilicia in the persecutions of Galerius Maximianus and Maximin Daza. This exposed Elias’s faith, and he was arrested, tortured and martryed by order of the governor Firmilian.

Elias: “From Jerusalem. Does not Saint Paul say that Jerusalem, Jerusalem on high, is our mother?”
Firmilian: “And where is this Jerusalem on high?”
Elias: “This Jerusalem is the true country of Christians; it is situated in the East, beside the true Sun and only Light.”
