Monk. Bishop of Sardis, Lydia. Active in the Second Council of Nice in 787. When he opposed the Iconoclasts, Euthymmius was exiled by Emperor Nicephorus. Over the next 29 years he was occassionally recalled and offered a chance to return if he would accept the iconoclast heresy; he always declined. Martyred in the iconoclast persecutions of Emperor Theophilus.
