Profile

Convert to Orthodox Christianity from Judaism. Deacon, serving at the Church of the Resurection in Beirut, Lebanon, and at Constantinople. Wrote hundreds of hymns in simple language, appealing to the hearts of the faithful. Of the thousand or so that he wrote, only 60 to 80 survive – but they are still sung today.
