Though she spent her money to support the poor, she attracted a steady stream of greedy suitors.
To avoid marriage to a man named Agarenus, a union supported by Emperor Basil the Macedonian, Anne fled from Constantinople to Epirus in Leucadia c.869.
She lived there the rest of her life as a hermitess.
