- Benedictine monk at Whitby, England, under Saint Hilda of Whitby.
Bishop of Deira (modern York), the southern half of Northumbria, now Yorkshire, in 678.
Appointed to the see by Saint Theodore when Saint Wilfrid was driven out by King Egfrid.
Bishop again in 691 when Wilfrid was exiled after a quarrel with King Aldfrid.
Saint Bede says Bosa was "a man beloved by God...of most unusual merit and sanctity."
