- Born to a well-connected family who were close to the imperial family.
Learned to read using the Psalms.
Educated at Fulda, Germany.
Benedictine monk.
Dean at Fulda.
Ordained in 1029.
Abbot at Werden am Ruhr.
Abbot of Hersfeld in 1031.
Archbishop of Mainz, Germany from 1031 to 1051.
Imperial chancellor.
Grand almoner of the empire.
No matter what his position, Bardo always lived as a simple, austere monk, travelling his diocese, preaching and teaching.
Known for his charity, his support of the poor, and his love of animals, especially birds.
He fought against drunkenness, and stood against the state to protect the wrongly accused.
